Ori 3 Isn’t In The Works, At Least Not Yet

While Ori fans might have been hoping for a third entry in the Metroidvania series, developer Moon Studios has a good reason for pivoting to the action-RPG genre with No Rest for the Wicked. The team feels like Ori’s story is “complete.”

Speaking with Game Informer, Moon Studios co-founder Gennadiy Korol said the developer was “pretty happy with where it left off” the series after Ori and the Will of the Wisps. “It’s a complete arc now; if you play both games, it’s a complete story,” Korol said. “So it felt like the only way we would come back to Ori 3 is if we have more to say, more story to tell.”

Apparently, Moon Studios CEO and creative director Thomas Mahler does have more to say, revealing that he has “a title for” Ori 3 in mind already. This came as a surprise to Korol, who “didn’t know that it was on the table.” Mahler added he has “some ideas,” but currently the team is all hands on deck for No Rest for the Wicked.

That makes sense, as No Rest for the Wicked will arrive on Steam Early Access on April 18–in a matter of days, at this point. This comes not long after the Ori developer revealed the action-RPG at The Game Awards

back in December. GameSpot has an exclusive concept art gallery for No Rest for the Wicked. The game is planned to release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, in addition to PC.

As for the Ori franchise, Ori and the Will of the Wisps was one of Xbox’s best games in 2020, when the sequel was released. Both games in the franchise are also available on Nintendo Switch. For more, check out GameSpot’s Ori and the Will of the Wisps review.
