Lamborghini Lanzador Concept Is The Brand’s First EV

Last week, Italian luxury sports car maker teased the launching of a new vehicle. The teaser came with a date that coincided with the Montery Car Week in the US. Over the weekend, the company finally lifted the veil off of its mystery car, now known as the Lamborghini Lanzador concept car, the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV).

In terms of looks, the Lamborghini Lanzador is an odd one. At a glance, it looks reminiscent of the brand’s supercars, such as the Huracan. But upon closer inspection, it is quite a bit taller that what you’d expect from a vehicle of that category. The company says that the Lanzador concept car is “a high ground-clearance GT with 2+2 seats”, combining the “ultra high-performance elements of the Revuelto” and the “animated versatility of an Urus”.

Being a concept car, no performance specifications of the Lamborghini Lanzador was shared. Instead, the company described in broad strokes what it intends to achieve for its production models following this concept. To start, it’s an all-wheel drive EV with one electric motor on each axle, with over one megawatt of peak power. The rear axles also get active e-torque vectoring for better maneuvering around corners.

Then there’s active aerodynamics, in the form of the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA). This is already used in existing supercars like the Huracan Performante and the Aventador SVJ, but the idea is to allow the car to actively shift its aerodynamic profile. This gives it both better downforce when cornering, but also lower air resistance when moving at top speed. In addition to just lap times, the company says this will also improve range per battery charge, making it more important on an EV than a petrol-powered one.

Being a 2+2, the Lamborghini Lanzador has a healthy amount of space at the back, via the glass tailgate, thanks to the adjustable rear seats. There’s also some boot space underneath the bonnet. The interior has a very futuristic look to it, as most concept cars do. But it remains to be seen if the theme here survives the journey to production.

And on that note, the company says that a production version of the Lamborghini Lanzador will only be built starting 2028. So there’s plenty of time of things to change, to say the least.
